The excerpt is from Victoria Hislop’s “The Island”. Mum chose this book because it is set in Crete, where she visited with dad before they were married. Symbolically, the escapism that this novel inspires in its readers is important in communicating the main characters personality and emotion in the film. I hope that this would build upon the individuality that is portrayed through the mirror with Mum applying her makeup and jewelry.
