Hurrumph.
After having a slightly productive streak, I feel like I’m basically fannying around at the moment with no real direction. Flat is going on the market which was the uber stress of the start of the week, but now, I don’t know. I feel stuck in a rut. I need inspired.
I need a new sound… reminds me of the Mighty Boosh episode where they are searching for the new sound - and they find it with afros on their heads that ‘grow’ little doors. I don’t think this is a real solution for my ipod app though…! The consensus of the breathing noise that plays when the Subtle Subtitles app is switched on / off is that it’s a bit creepy. So that’s a bit rubbish! But finding a suitable, sweet, understated sound effect to replace it is SO difficult!
I need to be inspired to start my film too. I had planned to make a long version and a 1 minute version… but I need content and style (obv). A friend of mine was the producer in this film donated to Macmillan Cancer Support… It has a really nice feel. I’d like my film to feel like this (and obviously be this good!) But the story is different. I think what makes my project sweet is the focus on who it is for / the context of use. Everything about my project is intentionally contrasting the experience of using devices people with disabilities (such as my Mum) have had - because I have tried to respect her and other users individuality and support what she can do not highlight what she can’t.
The film needs to show the scarf in context. At the moment I have a dinner party in mind, with shots of eating and drinking, I don’t know. Something nice, sociable. A weakness of this would be it isn’t necessarily involving complete strangers… however if it was to be used in say a shop, I think I would be highlighting weaknesses of the design - the ipod screen can be reflective, and I don’t know the capabilities of the microphone in places with a great deal of background noise. I make no excuses for that fact, if the product was to actually be launched, specialists in microphone design would obviously tackle that problem.
Back to the content - maybe show mum putting her earings on, getting ready etc… I only want brief (which is enough) acknowledgement of the app / how it looks and behaves. So a shot of dad or our carer switching the app on for mum and putting it in the scarf…? then just atmospheric conversations and such, maybe game playing? Show the subtitles working… Show the scarf… oh I don’t know!
I think I’ll storyboard ideas first, it’s strange having time on my side (briefly). All other videos (which have, I know, been rubbish) have only been shot and edited over a maximum of 2 days! God this is difficult!! I’ll maybe spend some time looking for inspiration tomorrow. For now, goodnight.
